SkillStack Nigeria

The trust infrastructure for Nigeria's invisible skilled workers.

SkillStack is a concept for a portable identity and trust layer that helps artisans prove skill, carry verified work history across platforms, and become more visible to customers, employers, and lenders.

In Progress Trust Infrastructure Skilled Labour Identity Systems

Project Summary

Nigeria has millions of skilled workers whose ability is real but whose reputation is not portable. Customers struggle to know who to trust, artisans struggle to prove competence, and the entire market operates with avoidable friction.

SkillStack is designed as shared trust infrastructure rather than another marketplace. The core idea is simple: give artisans a persistent skill identity that can hold verified work history, competency signals, and reputation across multiple contexts.

The Problem

Trust Failure in Hiring
Clients often rely on word of mouth because there is no dependable way to vet artisans before giving them work.
Invisible Skill
Many experienced tradespeople have genuine competence but no portable proof of quality, consistency, or history.
Siloed Reputation
Even when a worker has good ratings on one platform, that trust does not travel with them anywhere else.
Limited Access to Opportunity
Without verifiable skill records, artisans are harder to screen, harder to finance, and easier to overlook.

How SkillStack Works

SkillStack is structured as a portable trust protocol with multiple layers that reinforce each other.

SkillStack ID

A persistent identity tied to the worker, designed to carry reputation and competency signals over time.

Competency Proof

Short practical assessments reviewed by experienced trade experts to show actual ability, not just paperwork.

Verified Work History

Completed jobs can be logged and attached to the artisan's record, building a visible pattern of real work.

Community Vouching

Trusted peers in the same trade can strengthen an artisan's record with structured endorsement.

Open API Layer

Platforms, employers, and service providers can plug into SkillStack instead of rebuilding trust systems from scratch.

Credit Bridge

Verified work patterns and competency signals can eventually support better credit decisions for tools and growth.

Designed for Real-World Access

One of the strongest parts of the idea is that it does not assume every artisan is smartphone-heavy, highly literate, or app-native.

USSD-first Thinking

Core actions can be designed around low-friction channels that work on basic phones without full-time internet access.

Trusted Intermediaries

Union leaders, suppliers, and community figures can help with registration, updates, and trust-building.

QR Badge Layer

A simple physical badge can make the system visible and usable even when the digital layer stays in the background.

Trust and Fraud Resistance

Reputation systems only work when abuse is harder than honest participation. SkillStack is built around that principle.

Risk Response
Fake Job Confirmation Weighting, repeated-pattern detection, and stronger verification around who can confirm work.
Ghost Registrations Independent competency checks and periodic reviews instead of relying on one gatekeeper alone.
Rating Inflation Recent work can matter more than stale history, with unusual spikes flagged for review.
Platform Manipulation Trust data is designed to outlive any single app or marketplace.

What Makes the Idea Strong

Infrastructure, Not Just Discovery

It aims to become the shared trust layer underneath existing platforms, not merely another listing site.

Portable Reputation

The strongest insight is that trust should belong to the worker, not to whichever app captured the review.

Nigeria-first Design

The concept responds directly to local realities around identity, informal labour, access, and verification.

Expandable System Logic

The same foundation can support marketplaces, lenders, employers, and even international verification flows.

Rollout Direction

Phase 1
Start with one trade in one city and build real density instead of spreading too wide too early.
Phase 2
Expand trade by trade through existing associations, cooperative structures, and community distribution points.
Phase 3
Open up integrations for platforms, employers, and financial products that benefit from trusted skill records.
Long-term Vision
Grow into a deeper labour-trust infrastructure layer that makes skilled work more visible, portable, and useful.
