DropPilot

A personal desktop automation tool for repetitive browser workflows.

DropPilot is a local desktop automation concept designed to record, schedule, and execute repetitive browser-based tasks so the user does not have to repeat the same routine manually every day.

The product is built around one-person workflow efficiency: record a task once, schedule it, then review what succeeded, failed, or needs manual intervention.

Pre-development Automation Desktop Tool Local-First

Project Summary

Repetitive browser workflows are easy to forget, time-consuming to maintain, and frustrating to repeat across many platforms. Even small misses can break streaks or reduce consistency.

DropPilot is designed as a private desktop assistant that records those workflows, runs them on schedule, and reports back with enough context for the user to fix any issue quickly.

Core Goals

Automate Repetition

Remove the need to manually repeat the same browser tasks every day.

Reduce Missed Runs

Use scheduling and reporting so important workflows are not forgotten.

Surface Failures Fast

Provide enough visibility and screenshots to understand where a run got stuck.

Stay Session-based

Rely on the user's existing browser sessions rather than storing credentials in the app.

Core Features

Task Dashboard

Shows configured tasks, status, last run, next run, streaks, and notes in one view.

Farm Controls

Run all tasks, run one task, skip a task for a session, and track live progress.

Record Mode

The user performs a task once in a watched browser session and DropPilot saves it as a replayable script.

Scheduler

Supports daily timing, per-task frequency, reset windows, and background running from the system tray.

Session Health Check

Verifies the user is still authenticated before wasting time on a failing run.

Failure Reporting

Captures screenshots, timestamps, and simple error classifications when something breaks.

User Flow

Add Task
The user names a task, records the actions once, then saves the flow.
Test Run
The task can be replayed immediately to verify that the recorded steps still work.
Schedule
The user decides when the task should run and how often it should repeat.
Review Results
After runs complete, the user checks what succeeded, what failed, and what needs manual attention.

Security and Privacy Direction

The idea is intentionally local-first. Sensitive account access should stay inside the user's own browser sessions rather than being copied into the app.

No Password Storage

The app is designed to use active authenticated sessions rather than hold login credentials.

Local Storage Only

Runs, screenshots, history, and task data stay on the user's machine.

No Cloud Dependency

The workflow is intentionally private and not built around cloud sync or telemetry.

Technical Direction

Layer Technology Role
Language Python 3.11+ Main implementation layer for automation and orchestration.
Browser Automation Playwright Controls browser actions and powers replay execution.
Recording Playwright codegen + custom recorder Captures the user's workflow and turns it into reusable steps.
UI PyWebView or Tkinter Provides the local desktop shell and dashboard interface.
Database SQLite Stores task configs, logs, schedules, and run history locally.
Scheduler APScheduler Handles timed runs and background execution logic.

Build Phases

Phase 1
Foundation: dashboard, SQLite setup, one working hardcoded automation path, and failure capture.
Phase 2
Recording mode, add-task flow, and immediate test-run validation.
Phase 3
Scheduler integration, system tray behavior, notifications, and session checks.
Phase 4
History, streak tracking, backup and restore, and simple packaging for local use.

Project Positioning

DropPilot is presented in the portfolio as a personal local automation concept, not as a mass-market public platform. The strength of the idea is practical workflow reduction: less repetition, fewer misses, clearer reporting, and stronger personal control.
